July 2025: We announced in our June Newsletter the appointment of Claire Weir as the Radical Futures: Goldfields Local Curator. We’re so excited to have Claire join us for the Goldfields iteration of the 2025-2026 Regional Arts Triennial. Hear more from Claire below!

“I’m Claire Weir, a photographer, curator, and storyteller based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, where the complex landscape of exposed greenstone, woodlands, and red earth shape every part of life. Originally from Ireland, I’ve spent the past decade in the Goldfields, where my creative practice and curatorial work focus on connecting people to place - through image, memory, and story.

As a facilitator, and advocate for regional arts, I’ve worked across exhibitions, oral history projects, and community archives. Bringing a deep connection to the region and a strong curatorial voice, I’m passionate about honouring the lived experiences of regional communities, especially those often left out of the wider historical narrative.

Participating in the Regional Arts Triennial project is an opportunity to listen deeply, share honestly, and contribute to a wider conversation about identity, place, and belonging. I’m drawn to the overlooked beauty in everyday people and the places we call home and look forward to working with local artists who also have a passion for showcasing the richness and diversity of our community through their creative practice.”

We’re also thrilled to welcome extra financial support from the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission to aid in the success of the Goldfields’ Radical Futures program.

Thanks to the team at the GEDC for their continued contribution to local arts and culture!
